Perfectly Productive

Having dental work completed can be an exciting time, if you've had a number of restorative treatments done such as dentures, bridges and dental implants you've probably completely transformed your smile. However, if you're noticing that things aren't quite as they seem, there could be a problem with your recently fitted dental implants Melbourne? Read on to find out.

Swelling
When you have had oral implants fitted, you can expect there to be some swelling afterwards. After all, having implants fitted is surgery. But if you notice the swelling after the procedure is getting worse or is starting to hurt, then this can be a sign that there is an underlying problem. Particularly relating to infection, it is also worth noting that if your swelling changes colour and becomes a purple or a red hue, then you need to seek out emergency treatment from your dentist.

Discomfort
Once again, some minor discomfort after the fitting of an oral implant is to be expected and many dental patients compare the sensation to having an oral extraction. However, much like the swelling, if you notice that your discomfort is worsening, prolonged or driving you to distraction, then you need to seek out a same-day dental appointment to have the cause explored. The most likely issue is an infection, which can be treated without damage to your implant, provided that it is caught early enough.

Movement
A correctly fitted oral implant should not move, and once you have had yours fitted, your dental team will advise you on foods to eat for the next few weeks to prevent putting undue pressure onto the implant, keeping the risk of movement to a minimum. But if you feel that your implant is moving or you can visually see that it is in a mirror, then you need to seek the advice of the dental team who fitted it to assess the cause of this. It may simply be due to excess swelling, putting pressure on the implant.

Feeling ill
As mentioned before, the main concern that many have after having an oral implant fitted is that they will get an infection. Although rare, if you feel unwell after you have had your oral implant fitted, then you need to seek out an emergency dental appointment. As is the way with regular dental infections if untreated, this can lead to sepsis, which is life-threatening and it can also create issues with the fusing of your oral implant.

Pus
Can you see pus in the mirror when you are looking at your oral implant? Is it seeping from the gums around the implant site? If so, you need to seek out the help of your emergency dental team to treat the infection.

For many of us, having straight teeth and a great smile is a goal we wish to achieve. Thankfully, due to the continuous advancements in dentistry, there are dental treatment options that can help you achieve the smile you desire like Invisalign London. The area of dentistry that focuses specifically on preventing, diagnosing and correcting teeth and/or jaw irregularities is orthodontics.

 An introduction into orthodontics
Orthodontics is the area of dentistry that makes use of appliances (commonly known as braces) in order to correct dental issues. One of the most common and effective forms of orthodontic treatment is the use of traditional metal braces, which are used by both child and adult patients. Orthodontic treatment can be used to correct a number of dental issues, including correcting teeth that are crooked or crowded, closing gaps or correcting an overbite or an underbite. Traditional metal braces are a popular tooth straightening treatment. The metal brackets are fixed onto your teeth using an adhesive and the brackets are held together by a metal wire which is tightened by a dentist throughout the treatment and slowly moves your teeth into the desired position.  Another example of orthodontic treatment that is used to straighten teeth is lingual braces. Similar to traditional metal braces, lingual braces are made up of metal braces and wires however instead of being placed on the front of your teeth, these braces are fixed on the inside of your teeth, making them virtually invisible and a popular choice with adults looking to straighten their teeth. However, not everyone may be comfortable having braces fixed on their teeth for a period of time and may be looking for a more flexible way to straighten their teeth. If this is you, then you may want to consider Invisalign London.

The alternative to traditional metal braces
Invisalign London is a revolutionary teeth-straightening system that uses custom made aligners to slowly shift teeth into the desired position. Invisalign London is able to correct both minor and complex dental concerns and unlike traditional metal braces, these aligners are both clear and removable, meaning that you are able to straighten your teeth without anybody knowing. Should you opt for this treatment, you will be given a series of aligners that you will be required to change throughout the teeth straightening process. Each set of aligners will gradually shift your teeth into place and you will begin to see the results in the first few weeks. For this treatment to be most effective, you will have to wear the aligners for a minimum of 20 hours a day, only removing the aligners to eat and drink. You are also able to maintain your oral care regime as you can brush and floss as normal.

Once you have completed the treatment, you are able to have a retainer attached to the back of your front six teeth. The retainer will be a thin wire which will prevent your teeth from shifting back to their previous position. It is also important for you to ensure you clean your retainers to reduce plaque build up.
